Why I’ll Never Not Love My Sam Edelman Petty Boots

Welcome to The Real Deal Recommends, a series that serves as “that friend” you talk to before buying anything—because you know that friend loves researching new products and knows where to find them for the best prices. Here, our brand and social manager, Caitlin Quinn, shares her shoe for all seasons, the Sam Edelman Petty Boot.

These boots were made for walking. No, really. They are.

As a former Nashvillian and slightly newer Texan, I’ve always loved the confidence of a dirt-kicking boot iconic to those parts of the country. Picture them on the legs of Thelma and Louise, rested against a screen door or out the side of a pickup. What a dream.

But really, I’ve just never been comfortable in those tight, inflexible cowboy boots. Those steel-toed heels are great for two-stepping or as surefire armor from snake bites, but those are both things I already try to avoid.

I just need something that I can stretch my toes in, be able to bend the fronts for liftoff and hug my tall boyfriend “hello.” You know, just enough pinky coverage and comfort for the daily trek. 🙂

But I also need a little height. Not too much height, though! In Austin, the scorching land of 365-day burn bans and water restrictions, we replace brown grass with “rock gardens,” aka full, precarious landscapes of tiny red pebbles in front of homes, restaurants, malls, you name it.

Ladies learn fast that you can’t wear those spiky stilettos made popular by Victoria Beckham and Ashley Olsen in the street. Just walking straight, I’ve often lost my “grip” on the ground and slid out like a collapsing Jenga tower. For real, it happens. I’m not sure-footed. I need to feel secure in my shoe choice. Balanced and close to the earth.

And they need to be worn with everything. Dresses? Jeans? Work? After work? Make it happen, boots! I’m not spending my hard-earned money on just anything that’ll wrap around these peds. Shafts should be short enough to not worry about the decision to tuck the pants in or leave the hems out for the “look,” but tall enough to give the outfit a bit of an edge. And side zippers are required for a cool, easy slip-on, too. No sweat fitting that foot in when it’s 100-plus degrees outside!

Sam Edelman Petty Booties

Hello, Sam Edelman Petty Booties. You check off all these needs and make me feel like an American girl.

It helps they can be worn in all seasons. As a firm believer of the capsule wardrobe and work uniform, I like to stretch my dollars, knowing each one of my wardrobe essentials will take care and swap out effectively like a play-your-own-adventure in Cher Horowitz’s closet. (As if …)

So, I’m sure I’ve made a point. Sam Edelman Petty boots are my go-tos and for good reason. They should be your good reason for purchasing a pair yourself. Find a deal at RetailMeNot. (You can get 5% cash back at Amazon right now when you buy Sam Edelman boots.)

Circa 2013 … my love for these boots has outlasted my serious bang phase.

I’m not going to lie. I’ve bought four pairs of the black leather ones. Each time, I’ll wear them into the ground and order a replacement. Even though there are about 20 different shades available on Amazon, I can’t help but feel my most confident in those black leather ones. I guess it’s a color/material combo that gives me the toughness of a biker chick when I know I can’t get it from being a cowgirl.
